Haiti Relief Effort
Let God use the wreck in Haiti
to wreck your heart for its people.

From our Lead Pastor Tony Myles
Perhaps like me, you find yourself often
struggling to make sense out of the tragedy
in Haiti versus a desire to go about our lives
as normal.  After all, there's that laundry to
take care of, the kids need to get to practice,
and the next episode of our favorite TV show
is almost on.  It's not that we don't care, but
maybe it's more that we're used to caring about
other things in our own slice of the world.

That's one reason why our church is taking on a
challenge to let the wreck of Haiti wreck our hearts.
We're calling it an "Inconvenient Offering," in that instead of taking part in our usual conveniences
of drinks, desserts, and fast food we're opting
instead to live simply by drinking only water and
tallying up what we would have spent to become a special financial gift for relief work. While there
may be more aggressive ways to raise funds,
our hope is to also raise daily awareness,
compassion, and prayer for those affected by
this tragedy.  We all know that any effort to help
out this tragedy matters, but it seems like we're
called to do more than send a quick donation and
move on to the next showing of Grey's Anatomy.

So if you want to take part, even today as you read
this, begin to hold back from some of these
daily pleasures and start living in a larger Story
than the next scone or latte'.  We'll be collecting
the financial gifts at our Sunday services, but even
more importantly we'd love to have your partnership
in enlarging our hearts.  While you we may feel
we "deserve" and are "entitled" to our desserts
and entitlements, there's your sacrifice will make
a difference for them and in you.

Jesus said, "If anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is my disciple, I tell you the truth, he will certainly not lose his reward." (Matthew 10:42)
